The dense urban fabric, proximity of neighboring buildings, rich functional program, and the constraints of a small plot with existing structures strongly shaped the design process. The key question was whether the existing building could be reused. Its adaptation, however, proved economically unjustified—requiring costly underground works and integration into a much larger mass. The decision was therefore made to retain only the rear wall and demolish the rest, which formally qualified the project as a reconstruction, extension, and superstructure. On this basis, a new volume was created with a repetitive layout of educational floors—flexible thanks to movable partitions and a fixed communication and service core. The façade, punctuated by a strict rhythm of simple window openings, was designed to introduce calm and order into the varied surroundings. The building was not intended as another architectural “showpiece,” but as a neutral backdrop for learning and art, harmoniously integrated into its historic context. The ground floor, however, breaks this repetition, opening entirely onto Raciborska Street. Here, an “open studio” invites passersby, blurring the boundary between interior and city. A monochromatic finish of floors, walls, ceilings, and even the adjacent sidewalk reinforces this continuity. Designated zones incorporate greenery, seating, and tables. Unlike the upper levels, the ground floor façade is fully glazed, equipped with large movable panels that seamlessly connect the studio with the urban space.
