Competition entry for multi-family housing in Bielsko-Biała
A design proposal for multi-family housing development in the competition organized by SARP Katowice on behalf of Bielsko-Bialskie TBS Sp. z o.o. The dominant starting point was the location of the investment – an area with a strong slope towards the north, surrounded by dense, forest greenery. The development was divided into three repetitive buildings in a cascade layout, the building blocks themselves were also shaped in the form of cascades – each subsequent storey has a smaller area than the previous one. This procedure allowed for optimal sunlight for the apartments, and also harmoniously incorporated the blocks into the sloping terrain. Thanks to the large slope, it was also possible to avoid entrances to the underground garages through ramps – all garages are accessible from the ground. The buildings have spacious galleries, made of prefabricated wooden elements in CLT technology, which is a characteristic detail of the facade. The investment is based on renewable energy sources, and an extensive system for managing and using rainwater was designed – from the so-called “grey water”, to absorbent basins and rain gardens, to above-ground reservoirs, which are also part of recreational zones.
