Reconstruction of the historic building of the Hohenloche Zinc Smelter in Katowice Wełnowiec
The conservator recommended that the elevation of the historic building be restored and recreated, using the original divisions of window glazing bars, roofing or clinker bricks to fill in the gaps in the walls. The elevations were therefore restored by the Owner to their original condition, while the interior of the building, in accordance with the Client’s wishes, was to be a combination of an industrial, pragmatic approach and contemporary, loose elements and accents. Construction work had already been carried out in the building, consisting of the construction of a staircase located in the very center of the building and the introduction of additional reinforced concrete columns, due to earlier plans to use the building as an office building. The entire structure of layers and aging processes, appearing over the last few decades, was visible in the building. The entire ground floor was designated for functions related to workshops, as well as a bistro for hostel guests and a hall with a sales space for local craftsmen creating products related to Silesia. On the first floor, there are rooms for guests, kitchenettes for heating your own meals and sanitary facilities. The top floor consists of four individual apartments, equipped with bathrooms and kitchenettes.
